After sitting for about 17 hours, the truck started right back up again from a cold start.  Dad drove it straight home.

Turned it off, tried starting again.  No go.

Damn thing must have a 6 hour timeout.  It won't start warm!

This is what you do:

Turn the key three times. Be sure to groan in frustration.

look over your shoulder as if checking a flux capacitor, then to your dashboard for a clock.

Bellow an inarticulate groan and bash your forehead into the steering wheel.

Should work right afterwards.
