So we got our first black president...

...and the world goes nuts.

*sigh* Here we go again.  Calm down, people... we got two months to get him physically in the White House now.

Plenty of time for more assassination attempts.

It's going to be fun, because for the first time in a long time, the 'to-be' president is going to _have_ to get involved with the existing president, in order to assure a smooth transition - we're in the middle of (right or wrong) at least one war (Iraq, AFghanistan, Bosnia, Korea deployments, and so forth), plus the 'Recession' (I keep thinking that if the media would SHUT UP, most people wouldn't notice there was a recession. Those gleeful fuckers would panic a theatre by yelling 'fire' at a match, if they thought it'd bring in eyeballs for their ads)

Considering Obama's attitude compared to Bush's, this is going to be a fun ride. I still voted for Bob Barr.

Gah! I hope not. That would be the absolute worst thing that could happen.

1. Martyr. It was bad enough when JFK was killed. After that, LBJ managed to get a solid filibuster-proof majority and push through all kinds of dreadfully expensive, dreadfully ineffective social programs and bankrupted the country. The whole reason we went off the gold standard was because of LBJ's little experiments wouldn't allow us to pay for all the social boondoggles if our money supply remained constrained.
2. Brady bill. This would probably be enough to get every gun confiscated except single shot hunting rifles. If two people getting hit with low caliber weapons caused all the trouble we have now, imagine what would happen with a president getting killed. *cringe*
3. Freedom of speech/fairness doctrine. They're going to blame it on "Hate Radio" and shut down any form of reasoned and intelligent opposition discussion in the country, they'll also blame it on "hate sites" on the internet and extend their censorship there as well.
4. President Joe Biden.

Basically, it would be the end of any political opposition in the country. There may be token opposition, but it'll be so gutted and at the mercy of the media monopoly that they won't be able to stop anything but the most onerous legislation. It'll also be the end of the politicians listening to the people as we would have absolutely nothing to back our voice up.

So until then, I'll just do my best to respect the office of the presidency, and hope that he completes his 4 year term. I'll try to keep my arguments intellectually honest, and hope that in the future the democrats return the courtesy.

I think that Obama's socialist plans will totally kill this economy and we'll have unemployment exceeding 10%, GM will definitely be bankrupt and the coal industry will no longer exist.

Well, it might. If so, then you wait until he brings these things up that would violate the principles and debate them. At the moment, he hasn't actually implemented anything. We should probably wait until he gets into office and starts actually pushing for some piece before we start raising too much opposition. For now, we don't have to worry about the presidential election anymore. Yay. No more 24/7 political coverage.
