Hmm, and considering I plan on dual booting this with Windows (XP x64 or Vista Ultimate x64) in the next few months (downloaded the Live CD 2007.0, haven't burned it yet)

eye candy is not everything - usually it is nothing.
beside, i could do that on windows faster in '97. 3dlabs power. nvidia trash just caught up to their 2002 product line.

Well, Windows has virtual desktops, just not by default. You have to get Stardock's Object Desktop or a similar tool to do it.

I just bought a 8600GT, but haven't been able to get the automatic compiz configuration to take hold. I'm thinking of reinstalling that system to 64bit, but it's a bit of a pain as it's also my main mythtv box.
