iPhone or iPod Touch...

I've been passively thinking this over...

iPod touch: 8gig for a wide-screen, touch-controlled iPod with built-in Wifi, the ability to surf the net and run YouTube video over it, and buy music over Wifi.  Oh, and the wifi does WPA unlike my Zaurus due to the card I have.  $299, add $100 for a 16 gig model.

iPhone:  $100 more than the iPod Touch 8gig.  Adds on a AT&T-locked GSM phone, unlimited EDGE for $20 more on current plan or $60 for the lowest postpaid plan for it, a camera that takes halfway decent pics w/o flash, visual voicemail, integrated Yahoo and Google mail.  You're locked in for two years if switching plans.

The safe bet would be the Touch.  While I would get functionality, I'd be locked in and with my employment situation, I may not have this job contract renewed due to budget concerns.  I'll be lucky if they did renew me.  I don't know and I'm not wanting to risk it.

The iPod Touch it is.

Right now, I'm temted to do a major iPod mod.

One of three options:
1. iPod Touch + 80GB iPod 5.5G hard drive. (Currently have this iPod)
2. iPod Touch + 160GB iPod 6.0G hard drive.
3. iPod Touch + 64GB Solid state drive.

The problem is, if it's anything like the iPhone, the Touch has it's flash ram built in.

However, if the chipset allows for USB or Firewire hosting, why not hack the firmware and wire up a hard drive for it?

Ah! That sounds good! But, the point is having the memory inside the iPod, not outside, but I could deal with having an extra hard drive hookup if needed.
