I'm now forced to coin a new phrase.

"Technical Violation -- Ticketed and removed."

The rule with ads is that you never play any audio without user permission.  99% of the time it annoys the user.  It's a rule enforced with Keenspot and Comic Genesis, and it's a good rule that should extend to Flash based comics.

Today's S.S.D.D. proves that point.  On load, it starts crying like a baby.  And I load a bunch of webcomics in tabs, so I'm thinking "Crap.  Some idiot's playing audio without my permission."  It turns out it's the comic.

Well, the story was getting to be plotless anyway.  We already know where this comic ends.  All of this is backfill.  Plus, the author reminds me of idiots who post on news.admin.net-abuse.email.  So much illogic...

Oh well.  Zero loss compression.

Did you not recognize the flash animation? (though more elaborate this time), somebody is getting Mind-fsckd. The music and the sound of the crying baby naturally enhances the feeling, the emotional impact of this strip... I can't believe you compared it to a keenspot ad.

As for the Backfill, it's called 'Character Development'. You should try it sometime.

SSDD shares the same bookmark folder as Gaming Guardians, Cortland (which should move down to the MWF folder), Mobties, and BF Funnies. Add to the fact that I'm loading tabs in the background (I got annoyed with pics I request popping up instead of letting me continue loading the tab bar).

Character development, I can see, but we already saw the ending when they traveled back in time. This turned into how Theresa became how she is and how Norman Gates got to be... actually, we know how Norman Gates already became the First Adviseor(sp?), because of the "Oracle". Any fifth grader could make that connection, and I think any third grader could too.

We've been spoiled, basically. Alan is no Greg.

It would be more entertaining if we had more Norman, meeting the Oracle, interspersed in with Theresa becoming part borg. But now, I'm getting rather bored and starting to sympathize with the Anarchist Droids, especially MetalHead.

By the way, it's not a Keenspot ad. Keenspot ads pitch Keenspot stuff, and kept themselves sane from the get-go. The provider for the non-Keenspot ads is Burstnet (check them URL's in Firefox's DOM inspector!), of which Keenspot has some control over (it can ban some ads from showing, from what I hear).

I still don't see any reason not to wait until the viewer has clicked a button to actively start the animation before you start emitting noise.

I don't read the comic at all, I'm just noting that unprompted sound from ads annoy the hell out of me as well.

SL's a different media entirely. In other words, you already pressed play when you logged in.
