It's been the weekend with my rig.  I can't belive it's this quiet, but it is.  It's like it's shut off.  I really should find out how hot it's running, but something tells me it's not.  Maybe it's the 90nm process, and the Sempron's power management features.  Maybe just the reorganization made things better  -- I'm using the on-board audio and network, so the removal of two cards may of made the difference.

I just wonder.

Anyway, I'm now switching everything over to GCC 3.4 (my main rig now uses that as it's default compiler).  What fun.

The Sempron 64 2800+ I have in my secondary desktop runs very cool even with Distributed.net running 24/7. I can take the case off and touch the heat sink and it feels just barely above room temperature.

I've heard the Athlon 64's are the same way. I think the Ath64 chip line is the best AMD has ever put out.

I guess i'm also using on-board video as well, so that may contribute to the general cool running of the system. It's also an Antec Aria case with a huge but low-rpm fan in the back.

I'm actually using a PCIe board for video, which is strangely passively cooled. The system just... it's quiet!

The manufacturers are finally realizing there is a market for cool running and fanless components out in the field, rather than just catering 100% to the high end refrigerator cooled systems. ;)
