For saftey sake, I'm "preinstalling" Windows 2K on the soon-to-be AMD XP box for mom.

Two reboots for Windows to finish installing itself.
One to fix the onboard network drivers.
One to install the onboard accellerated IDE/pereferal drivers and sound drivers.
One to get 2K to Service Pack 4
One to get IE to 6 SP 1
One to update Windows Update
One to update Windows itself (pass 1 and 2)
One to update to Direct X 9c
One to update some framework and a driver.

10 reboots.  Ugh.

Only 10? I'd say that was a good install... :)

I know the feeling. My newer comp had Windows 2k installed. As soon as it found a net connection...

One to get 2K to Service Pack 4
One to get IE to 6 SP 1
One to update to Direct X 9c
One to install Windows Journal and the security pack
One to upgrade to Window Media Player 9

Is that an 'anticipated', or actual? I think you're at least two reboots short, especially if you add DirectX 9, then the service pack. Two to five, depending on how well you update it.
