A sports-economy car. Goes aught to 60 in 4 seconds and gets more than 50 miles to the gallon. Who did it? Not Ford, GM, Toyota, Aston Martin, Renault, Ferrari, Honda, Mazda, Voxel, hell any car company.

Date: 2006-03-01 12:53 pm (UTC)If anything, this proves that the potential is out there for alt-fuel vehicles to perform as well as - or in some cases, even better than - fossil fuel based vehicles. They just haven't be realized yet.
And by the time they are, the damage will have already been done. Classic human folly: not acting upon anything until it's far too late.

Date: 2006-03-02 12:42 am (UTC)1) The oil companies would probably have no issues dropping out of gasoline. Most of them are being forced to put in an additive that they have to buy from a competitor - without any choice in the matter.
2) Plastics. 40 years ago, yes, plastics was a small market. It's not anymore. Polymer construction _sucks_ oil. All they'd have to do is reduce their production of pain-in-the-ass material.
3) Who do you think would end up being used to produce the various biodiesels? The people with the most experience and the equipment to do it. I.E. Oil companies (and/or breweries)
