So it's 2006,
And what have we done?
Another year over.
A new one just begun.
And so it's 2006.
I hope you had fun.
Those close to your hear,
the old and the young.

2005 was, in essence, a mess:
  • Things settled down in Aftganistan as we (the US) rebuilt there.  We haven't gotten a word out of there lately.
  • We're still in Iraq, after esposing several gaps of logic in Pres. "Duba" Bush's proof.  Slowly they're pulling out.  Some say it's not fast enough.  I still think Pres "Papa" Bush should of yanked Hussein out.
  • Several leaks popped out -- one was of a CIA Operative, another of Duba's not-court-sanctioned wiretaps.  The last one Duba says was given to him... er... he already had that in this war on terror... er... just trust him.  Yeah.
  • The PATRIOT Act was extened a few months while they try to inject civil liberties back into the law.  It was nice while we were in an actual war against Aftganistan, but now we're mainly in Iraq.
  • Gas prices fluxuated wildly in Maryland, from $1.80 to $3.40 in September.  Prices are around $2.25 at the time of this post.
  • We returned to space with the aging shuttles, this time going more carefully and testing in-orbit repair techniques.
  • In 2004, Burt Rutan's Scaled Composites won the Ansari X-Prize by launching SpaceShip One twice inside 14 days, and exceeding 328,000 feet each time.  Last year, Sir Richard Branson (founder of Virgin) and Scaled Composites formed Virgin Galactic.
  • Our 2005 hurricane season (which ended at midnight) saw 29 instances, with Zeta forming just days in advance.  Thankfully, it's still out by Africa, so it won't hit anytime soon.
  • Unfortunately, Katrina and Rita really socked us.  Those two saw how bad things really got under Duba's administration -- New Orleans, the state of Louisiana, and FEMA were so slow that folks were asking that the Army be brought in.  Congress also had a hand to blame too.  Things are slowly getting back to normal, although the city's population has scattered to the rest of the states, and some folks aren't going back.
  • Of course, all the computer innovations, bugs, exploits, and whatnot.  You know them by now.
Let's hope 2006 is quieter.
