The wifi-B routers aren't as hackable. The Linksys WRT54GS is probably the best to get, and it is the one I have. It has 32mb of ram, 8mb flash, 200mhz processor while the G has roughly half that on every spec (with the exception of the processor, which is 125mhz.)
Circuit City had it for $90 with $20 worth of rebates a couple months back.
I installed OpenWRT linux and added my same old firewall scripts from my old debian box, modifying them to work on the non-debian platform.
