Slashdot reported on Telestra's deployment of DSL extenders, which are basically mini DSLAMs that split a 2.5 Mbps line eight ways, and stretch the range to 20 km.

DSL's general range is about 5.5 km.  I'm at least 6 km from the nearest POTS CO (which in my case, happens to be next to a liquor store).  My bro-in-law used to be 1 km.

I can't wait for fiber to be run down here...

I will be presenting in the Webcomics 101 panel with comic writers T Cambell and Phil Kahn, as well as comic artist Chris Fisher. The panel is being held this Friday at 3:00pm. I'll be there all day Friday and Saturday, wearing THIS badge and representing Comic Genesis. I do hear that there is 2100 registrations left at Otakon, so they will hold registration at the door if you don't have it! If you're in the Maryland area, come on over!
