So lets see now...

I'm pulling a copy of Knoppix 3.4 now using Bittorrent on neobast, the firewall.  That's relatively an unsupervized operation, and tomorrow I'll shut it down.  By then there be more sources with the full iso out there.

Running Spinrite on a new HD I bought off of Ebay.  Had some sector trouble beforehand, so it's going through the paces now on the laptop.  Says I have about six hours to go on that, so that'll run overnight.

I think I go to bed now and let it all work out.

Microsoft is expected to recommend that the "average" Longhorn PC feature a dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6GHz; a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; up to a terabyte of storage; a 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link; and a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today.

TWO GIGS OF MEMORY?!?!  What is Bill thinking?!?!  We're just getting reliable motherboard that can handle that, we don't have 1+ terabyte IDE or SCSI drives, nor built-in Gigabit Ethernet, nor NVidia processors that run just as hot as the PC itself!!!!

Well folks, you don't need that with Linux.  You can still get online with a Pentium 100 and 40 megs of ram and read Schlock Mercenary to your hearts content.
