On Canmeph 2, there's a few groups of people who are stuck with the meanial low wage jobs who can just barely support a family of two kids. Some are single parents, thanks to the occasonal war. The SputWolfSkunks and the many Churches of Faith help those in need. (Those who don't want it are taken in for psycological evaluation.)
On Babylon Alpha, it's a different section. Like on the Babylon 5 series, there is a "down below", where the dregs somehow get shoved into. Crime is low, but happens -- and when it does, about fifty people get LARTed, and they ask for the help which the SputWolfSkunks and one church, the Church of the Waiting WolfSkunk (an agnostic church), help.
There is also a "Santa Claus" on Babylon Alpha. Or should I say, "Santa Claws". While there is no record of a "WolfSkunk Santa" or a "WolfSkunk Claws", there is a ledgend of one, who not only gave toys to the kids, but also helped families and folks rise up. Every year, letters to Claws are written...
"Communications to Admiral RedWolf!" a lone Dryger called.
Even though shi could display the caller's stats, the Admiral knew who it was. "RedWolf. What's the problem, Lieutenant?"
"We're getting mail from folks here to a 'Santa Claus', it's really overloading th' servers."
RedWolf thought for a moment, and smiled. "Computer, create a mailbox account named 'Santa Claws.' Only I have access to it. Lieutenant, give it five minutes and start redirecting it to that account. I have plans."
"Confirmed," the lieutanant said. "We're forwarding already."
"RedWolf out. RedWolf to Friar Laerties, Church of the Waiting WolfSkunk, Canmeph 2."
The computer replied "Please wait, setting up call..."
By the time you've finished reading the above, all the presents have been unwrapped. If you didn't get that favorite Nintendo Gamecube CD for Chrismas, you may want to look at this Ebay auction for Star Wars, Rouge Squadron II. Yep, won the This is True Link contest (good e-mail list), but I don't have a Gamecube. If you want the game, bid on it -- it'll help towards getting my system in gear!
