strredwolfArgh. My old USB scanner wasn't dying. XSane (the front end) was screwing up, and was one revision down. I forced an upgrade and will be cluing in Slackware about it.
But Xili sent up a new scanner. I'll keep it, and give Xili the commission when shi's ready. It's smaller, more capable, and saves one power port, so happiness will ensue.
Next up, I'll be looking into Compact Flash USB host cards.
