PG Mari (who plays Reica Selen) posed a question in DEBATE of MZDM -- what if we can compare notes and see what common ground we do have.  I posted this:

Give me that ol' skepticism,
That logical positivism,
Dialectical materialism
is good enough for me.

I'm agnostic, but adaptive (as to not piss off other religions). To me, there's the possiblity that God does exist (however slight) -- he/she/shi/it may be sleeping since causing the Big Bang (anyone find the cause of that? Someone or something set it off).

If He (in the traditional sence, your worshiped deity or nondeity may vary, void where prohibited) does exist, then you must consider how much he "oversees..." or doesn't, considering the Big Bang theory. He could be completely totally unaware of everything, or just micromanages and is really a PHB (in Dilbertian terms). Or he could just be sleeping off that massive hangover since he partied for six "days" (of unknown length because time wasn't quite as well defined back then) and pulled the overnighter to get the universe done.

Now, you get another layer in the tree of "what if's" that is starting to boggle the mind. Is he trully able to guide everyone's actions down to the picosecond (making him a very good programmer)? Or does he just have it all set to random actions (highly doubtful since we can be programmed, we do it ourselves)? Or did he just put in enough coding for our Organic Intelegences to improve ourselves? Or maybe he created "subdeities" to do the work? Does the big guy upstars we mostly all know and love have a boss? Are we worshiping the wrong guy/gal/goy/being?

Mindboggling these questions are, aren't they?

Belive it or not, there are more and more layers of questions that span infinite realms, and one can be driven crazy just trying to comprehend it all in our fininte brains. Even the question as to "How large is infinity?" is hard to answer because of our tendency to assign a finite value to an a varible which can't be thought of in those terms. Such an assignment failing is enough to cause conflict and confusion.

All that can be said, however, is that science can explain a good amount of items, and investigatons are underway to explain the rest -- from finding your socks that get lost in the dryger to creating a 10-ton-of-TNT equivilent the size and weight of a golf ball (Slashdot has that). If the answers aren't there, just wait. You'll find as time goes on, God's role continues to get smaller and smaller.
