It's just a movie!
Okay, you all know about Avatar by now. A film that makes CG animation look indistinguishable from real life, made 3D movies look damn good, and could be absolutely killer were it not for the plot.
And then I hear two things that shake my head.
First is that folks are getting suicidal from not being able to visit the movie's world, Pandora. (CNN link) They say that Earth is just too depressing.
Excuse me while I channel Team Fortress 2's Soldier here. Snap out of it, Private Airhead! You want to be on Pandora? You make it on Earth. Channel your depression into something productive by donating time to improving your local environment. Look around for volunteer work in cleaning up parks and roads. There's tons you can do that'll make Earth a Pandora.
The second just makes me want to smack them upside the head with a shovel. There are folks who want to be not only "furry" but specifically "Na'vi" (the species of being inhabiting Pandora). Apparently they're so serious about this one movie and being one of those creatures that they've formed an online anti-defamation league... which smacks of being a joke just from it's mentioning.
And they're saying all furs are being against them and their religion? Hon, we're too busy with all the other religions, including Christian, Muslim, Judaism, Wiccan, atheist, and agnostic. You need at least three movies under your belt now to become a franchise, and even then it depends on how many people are up to join the cause. So stop bugging us until James Cameron produces two more films.
