Obama and Clinton.

Forget the LJ CUT tag.  There's one thing that needs to be aired out now.

CLINTON AS VICE PRESIDENT WOULD SPLIT THE PARTY.  PERIOD.

Why I say this?  Simply put, Hillary Clinton is in her own little world, separate of both the Real World and whatever is going in inside the Capital Beltway.  She did almost everything to be the next president, including pulling alot of tricks that Richard Nixon pulled. The difference is, she was caught BEFORE she became president.  Not after.

Reports were that her campaign was heavily in debt.  The verified fact of her loaning money to her campaign lends credence to that.

Bill Clinton's actions also undercut her campaign, making it alot worse than what Hillary could do alone... if she ever did much at all other than support Bill when he was President.  Oh, you forgot President Bill Clinton already?

So what would Hillary bring to Obama's table?  There's no direct foreign relations experience at all, no tangible record of a political career save for the X amount of time she's been in the Senate, and... oh, the women's vote.  Which is covered already by THE BIG O.  Opera Winfrey, who has more influence than Hillary Clinton, has a media empire at her helm... and is endorsing Obama.

In effect, Clinton would of done nothing but drag Obama down, and make McCain look much more appealing.

I wasn't suprized that Joe Biden got the nod.  Wisdom on the street is that Obama just needed an experianced hand, and he got it with Biden.  He also taps many intelectuals such as Prof. Lawrence Lessig, who's well reguarded within the realm of copyright and patent law as it relates to computers, networks, and the Internet at large.

Taking advice from Lessig is one of the most impressive things I've seen Obama do this campaign, and that's saying something. Over the last eight years I've become convinced that a presidency is made or broken by the choice of advisors, and that's an extremely good sign for him.

Plus, you pick a Vice President to get the Voters you wouldn't normally get. Democrats, for the most part, are going to vote Democrat... Though they did say that 25% of Clinton backers are going to be vindictive.

They're just waiting for McCain to do something stupid to attract those people back, I guess...

No, the Electoral math doesn't make any sense for Clinton to be on the ticket.

I agree with you about H. Clinton. She would be so power hungry for the top job, she would not let anyone forget that she should've had the top job. Obama would've constantly have been watching his back.

And Biden is a good choice for the traveling public. He is a big, big supporter of Amtrak. He took Amtrak everyday to Washington from Wilmington.

You can figure 95+% of Amtrak's workforce will be voting for Obama/Biden. And when there are 20,000+ employees of Amtrak, plus families, that is a good chunk of support.

The thing is, if the choice came down to between Clinton and Biden, it was a lose-lose situation. Because let's be honest; for a candidate that's riding the platform of change, Biden is about the biggest supporter of status quo in Washington you can get; a sleazy politician that picks by reflex whatever side of an issue is popular on the left wing side of the county.

What damage can Biden do other than influence, advise, and break ties in the Senate?

[identity profile] mike-fang.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's damage a-plenty right there.

Since when did being an 'outsider' become a job perk? Listen, I'm from MA and Ted Kennedy's MY senator and y'know what, people bitch and complain about him but he did a lot for our state AND for the government itself that was good, like helping to pave the way for women and minorities.

Sorry, but to me an 'outsider'is someone too full of hubris to 'sully' himself with politics. Yeah, it's a dirty business but it's gotta be done. What matters is what you do while you're mucking around in the dirt. If you think he's damaged goods, how's about posting some links and proving your point?

Too bad Bill wouldn't go for being Vice.

I know the founders would of thought of that possibility (they said the looser of the general gets to be VP as a consolation prize) -- and I doubt the writers of the amendment making the current system now though of it too.

I doubt the founders anticipated all the BS that goes on these days.

That's the problem with Democracy -- you get the government you deserve. For years, possibly decades, people let concern over politics take a distinct backseat to just about everything else. Honestly, how many people do YOU know who can name their House representative or their state senator? My answer when I conducted the test is 'damn few'.

I don't think he CAN -- he was Prez for 2 terms. If Obama gets in the Oval Office, he'd become President WHEN Obama gets shot ((Oh come on, anyone knows that ONE of those white-sheeted or Nazi-wannabes from Certain States will do it)), thus getting around the 'no more than two terms' rule.
