One can be both foolish and intelligent. People with high IQs do make mistakes, and sometimes very very foolish ones. :P
This is very much a propaganda film. Throw some quick numbers to make Atheists (and Agnostics) appear "better" than the common person (in this case, Christians) and then throw a bunch of names of famous people to make it seem like all atheists are the highly intelligent and/or successful people while implying that the other people are not so smart.
There are many people who believe in God that are highly intelligent and have many of those same degrees and similar accolades as mentioned in the film.
I feel the film should have focused more on simply showing people that being an atheist/agnostic does not mean one is a hateful person and unintelligent person. But rather show that humanists are loving, high in spirits, and are often great people. But those statistics at the beginning make rest of the film seem to be about how much "better" atheists are than Christians.
I'm more agnostic myself; meaning I don't believe people can make any particular claim on a God as "truth", simply because they cannot show any compelling evidence of it. However, neither do I attack people's belief in God (for the most part) since I cannot disprove them either.
A good film to watch is "The History of Disbelief." It aired on BBC and can be found as a torrent in parts 1-3. It's an excellent piece that shows just how much the early Atheists struggled and suffered just to get us where we are today.
And last I heard, Atheists only make up about 4% of the US population. There are less Mormons than Atheists. That's 96% of Americans that belong to one religion or another.
Atheists have struggled in the face of religion. Even with the massive oppression and distrust of the nation constantly leaning on us, we still have a higher percentage of stable families and lower crime. An Atheist is less likely to use force to prove a point than a religious individual is.
