-Honestly if there was a game where all you didi was do cool thing and tried to help people, I would play that! I mean seriously a game where you play a good samaritan but the possible twist was you would have to do it for the right reasons and not for the credit or the glory like this guy seems to get out of it by the end

Just a game where you WEREN'T having to kill everything in sight might be fun.

I think that's why I enjoy RPG's so much. A lot less killing, more thinking.

I need to scrounge back out Ultima I-IV.

First off, the commercial was a beautiful parody. Second off, RPGs are FILLED with killing. You're just leaving slaughtered monsters in your wake...and games like the Final Fantasy series have you mowing down soldiers and such...

Just because it's not graphic violence, doesn't mean it's not violence.

(For the record, I've got no problems with the GTA series, other than the fact that it's become derivative and rather boring. Any societal effects would be mitigated by good parenting, if such a thing existed anymore in this world.)

There's a vast difference between the 'ultima' violence and the GTA type. Personally, I find GTA and other FP anything to be pretty boring.

the Ultima violence was, frankly, on the order of checkers or chess. "Whang, six opponents gone". They didn't try to portray them as being "people". Frankly, they were just 'opponents'.

RPGs usually are more cartoonish about violence. I mean, in real life it doesn't take thousands of bullets from an arm mounted machine gun to knock out one person, but in RPGs it frequently takes multiple shots hitting. In games like GTA the violence is too realistic which in many cases makes it too boring for me.

I've been playing Radiata Stories, where people will randomly challenge you to duels. You beat them or they beat you and it really just changes the storyline a bit. Nobody dies from it, etc.

As for FP anything, You should try Ratchet and Clank sometime. It's another one of those cartoonish things. Along with the fact that most of your opponents are robots. It's more third person, but similar ideas to a fps game.

Oh, and Harvest Moon too. (Magical Melody for Gamecube is the best recent one, but the ones for gameboy advance and nintendo DS are good too.)
