(no subject)

A few minutes ago, I was looking on TV Guide online for any shows that may be on cable.  I stumbled apon ESPN2 showing "World Domino Tornament."

Most of you may think "Oh, this is folks building up those tumbling domino designs that make wacky pictures."  This isn't it, and I thank my bro-in-law for that fact... because he plays the actual game off and on at work.

And yes, it's the actual game.  On TV.  On ESPN2.

I think we've reached the pinnicle of sports now -- when there's nothing in the line of sports on for ESPN2 to cover.  NBC's got the Stanely Cup Finals.  Fox has a dancing competition a la American Idol.   ESPN, local sports, and WGN are doing baseball.  The rest of the channels are doing reruns.

Five hundred channels and nothing's on...

You forgot about World Cup Action!

Who cares? Top Gear already sorted it out. The Brazilians are going to win it.

That's what they said in '98 when the French won it, instead.

Dominoes (the intended game, not the kinematic experiment) are a lot of fun, but I can't see watching people play on TV. Then, I can't imagine watching people play poker, either.

I can see poker if you have an intrest, because they give you what folks are holding. An insider look. Dominoes... um... no little extra. Why?

Your hand in dominoes is hidden too, sug. If you know the game, you can get a good impression for the perspectives of the players and the situations they're facing - there's a lot of strategy that can go into it, even if most of it is simple probability management.

Maybe we should arrange to play a round sometime? It's probably my favorite board game next to Nine Men's Morris.

Only if you know Texas No-Limit Hold'em. :)

I'm in TEXAS, and I don't know it.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I was looking for something to kill time while I as waiting for the hockey game to come on. I surfed the guide and I saw that. My first reaction was 'wtf!' I the proceeded to watch the remaining 45 minutes of the event.

I'm sorry, but there is just something wrong when ESPN has to resort to last years DOmino tourney in order to fill time. But I gotta admit, I actually learned something that night. :P

I'm so glad I'm not wasting money on Cable. Although, I do wish I had better than DSL. It sucks they charge extra if you don't watch TV with them.
