Politicking the health care bill
Mar. 23rd, 2010 05:34 pmObama probably has signed it into law already, but folks I'm seeing are treating this as the end of the word. Certainly some Republicans are, as they've been attacking it like it's Attila the Hun.
Unfortunately, by the time they noticed it was too late to start. Seriously, you had to had the eye on the ball from day one like you had to start leveling up immediately in Batman: Arkam Asylum. Plus, they didn't push their own comprehensive plan that would of gotten them a better footing politically.
Then again, this bill's not the best out there, and there's already some Republican amendments in there, so it's not 100% horrid. The New York Times did a good overview of the bill.
My main point is that It's not permanently etched in stone. There are ways to change it.
One way is the judicial system. The courts are already getting lawsuits over the bill and four states have enacted useless laws to stop it in there area. But that will only waste time, money, and energy. The state laws get trumpeted by federal law most every time (it's usually an act of enforcement and a court ruling that makes the difference).
No, the next step is going back to Congress. Write (email or dead-tree) your Congress critter. Don't spew out hatred, because they won't get read. Be clean and to the point on what should be fixed. Research the bill and see what is wrong, and tell them about it. They can draft up another bill that fixes it.
That said, I'll be writing them. I didn't see any effort on paperwork standardization in the news. I'll be going through the bill's final text, and if it's not there, my legistlators are getting a thick letter from me with a proposed bill requiring it in five years time. Much money can be saved by everyone by standardizing the paperwork to the insurance companies.
