I'm thinking of using an SL811HS chip for the USB host (although it can also be slaved), which means I can use a regular PIC for handling the data and look for a decoder chip, perferably a DSP piped into a DAC. The only problem I can see is getting enough battery power to power up the flash drive -- it needs 5V but the USB spec is at 2 amps. I doubt the drive really needs that much amperage, so I'm wondering how I can test it's usage.
