Bought myself a replacement WiFi card, a Netgear WG511T.  Unusual card, but it works with the Atheros drivers.

Of course, some of you OSS purists will say "AAAIIIEEE!!! BINARY DRIVERS!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL!"  to which I say "So?  Nvidia and ATI cards require them.  The Atheros driver's built the same way -- compiled shim against the kernel that exposes an API to the binary driver.  You have to do the same way if you have a card that's only supported by NDISwrapper.  You have to use binary drivers for running Second Life on Nvidia or modern ATI hardware.  I don't have a problem with that.  I have a problem with you trying to shove your ideals down my throat like religious monks durring the Spanish Inquisition.  I'm not intrested in your views of generic policy when dealing with a company that is trying to open their chips up as much as possible but have to comply with local laws.  Sod off."

Anyway, I gained HostAP support.  Whee!
