My boss at $DAYJOB called me up last week and said (and I paraphrase) "Hey, I got these old laptops, do you want one before I return them?"

I said "Well... let me think about it."

"They're Pentium 3's, 650 Mhz, 512 Megs of memory..."

"Reserve one for me."

Speed ahead a few days, and I said "Hey $BOSS, the Pentium 3 laptop, what make and model is it?"

"Um... HP Omnibook something.  I can't say, it's in a different room.  But we'll bill you for $350 for it."

"That's ok.  I'll take a look..."

And come back to today.  I'm now posting this on a HP Omnibook 4150B, a 500Mhz Pentium III, no SpeedStep, but I belive the chip can be throttled, 512 Megs RAM (maxed out already) and a 20 gig HD.  It had Windows XP Pro on it... that was installed on a FAT32 partition.  Cleaned up from it's previous user, removed a ton of junk programs, and tarballed into a 1.2gig archive.  In comparison, the initial Gentoo install was 350 megs archived.  I've moved all the data from sandra  to this new redwolf, and the old redwolf will become sandra.  Of course, the old sandra is getting Win2K on it and going to dad for his own devices.  At least he'll have a case for it.
