Jul. 1st, 2005 10:51 amI think my bank is pulling a Crestar/SunTrust on me.
The "Current" doesn't match "Availible" within any amount of reason. Right now I should be around the size of my 'Spot paycheck minus a cell phone payment (GoPhone) in "Availible". Yesterday, it was negative for good reason - one CPi LCD cable, 4 cheap 12-packs of Coke, a box of donuts, some cake mix, two cans of frosting, and my cell phone (which put me in the negative). Today, "Availible" is at most a fourth of what "Current" is reporting (and I know "Current" always lags) -- which was the paycheck plus what I had to start yesterday.
When I had an account with Crestar (now SunTrust), and I direct deposit a check, it would go in on a Thursday night. Friday, while the check cleared, I would have about $100 availible. I'm seeing the same behavor now, even though with the expanded use of the Internet more than five years ago banks are sending check images and pulling money via fiber optics and TCP/IP instead of phone lines.
Online banking is a good thing, folks. It's how I know this.
While I wait another day for things to settle down (they usually do it between Midnight and 6am, from what I can tell) I'm checking bank options. Unfortunately, I have a completely free account -- no monthly minimums nor maintance fees, no direct deposit limitation, the ultimate basic account. I'm looking around for other local banks, and you bet your bippie noone comes close.
