First, a UK company called Xenova Group plc is testing out a tobacco vaccine used in the treatment of nicotine addiction (cigarette smoking).  The results are very promising in the second clinical trial.

And second, the Senate has voted for explicit FDA regulation of Tobacco. Of course, they're going to support the farmers in switching to better, more profitable crops.

Oh, and I hear Steve Hawking has flopped on his bet and owes, because his theories on black holes belching were wrong.  Turns out, there's no such thing as an event horizion, and some radiation and "information" or specificly structured matter can escape.

So I'm getting this FLCL DVD off my HD.  It's taking up too much room (9 gigs) and I need to clean up the HD anyway.  Problem is that I don't have a DVD RW drive, just a normal CD burner, and I don't trust ZIP archives (which are oddly structured) nor tar on multiple disks.

I remember an old DOS program called ARJ.  It was similar to tar in structure, but compressed fairly well.  It had better handling of archives over multiple disks, too.  But is there a Linux port?

Turns out the guys who write ARJ also write an open-source version.  They add in the security features in the commercial version.  Perfect for what I need.

As you know, I'm active on the Napping Cat's Dream.  Rarely will I go into DEBATE or REFLECT... but Zenl33t ([livejournal.com profile] nervemisfire) there pointed out an topic which the resident troll (in the figurative sence) was kinda abusing.  However, I'm game, so here's the first quote:

President Bush has used the pharase "the American people are Safer" as a response to criticisms about the Iraq war, so then the poiniant question is this, Do you feel safer today, now that Saddamn Huissein is out of power, than you did before the war?

My responce... )
