Dec. 29th, 2003 01:51 amThe more I look at Nextel and the latest Verizon offering... as well as AT&T/Tmobile/Cingular in their setups... the more I think "Why don't they just make the Internet completely wireless and assign us domains and IP addresses."
The idea of the GlobalComm comes from the comic strip Odd Jobs and the TV show Earth: Final Conflict. You have a PDA with a screen you pull out sideways, at the minimum 480x640, but able to stretch to 832x640. It hooks into WiFi, so you have at least a wireless 10-base-T connection. It has a vid camera and mike, and enough power to do spreadsheets while talking to your friend in Calgary or Moninegro in real time. Of course, we'll have to have an offshoot of Bluetooth for any keyboard and mouse needed. It would also run Linux, because Windows sucks on embedded hardware.
