I've pinpointed it down to the IDE portion that's unstable under high demand. Not sure if it's a true bug or not, so I dropped MSI a note about it. I'll also chat with [livejournal.com profile] gentle_wolfox next time I catch him on FurryMuck about it.

I may have to cancel that Biostar mobo auction.

Asked Gentle about the IDE bus. He says he never had any probs with it, but my prob sounds like to be a driver problem.

Googled on "linux ide via 8235" and found out that the driver (more like the patch to recognize it) is fairly new in kernel 2.4.21. Ugh. From what I saw, there's some quirkiness with that 8235 southbridge chip, and 2.4.22 looks like to have some fixes for it (from what I saw in the changelog). I'm glad it is currently in it's second release canidate form. May pull it, patch, and try it out, send the current maintainer some comments.

I wonder if the Nforge2 chipset from NVidia has any problems....
