Alot of folks are comparing this to Challenger, which blew up 17 years ago from what I'm reading.

However, if you've done a good bit of research, you'll find a nice little fact about *HOW* Challenger blew up. Dr. Feyman showed Congress how the rings that connect each part of the booster rockets (hint, they're not all one solid peice) are very brittle in cold tempteratures (aka high up in the atmosphere).

This one, however, looks like to be a different chain of events, from what I've seen on the news. Maybe being 9 hours out of the loop is done some good.
