This time, we cover wireless access.

As some folks know, there's a new wireless technology called WiFi (aka 802.11b). However, it's kinda insecure -- folks are checking around with WiFi cards, checking security and getting free access. Such checking is called "Warwalking" (if you walk around checking), "Warchalking" (recording such open access w/chalk), or even "Warflying" (checking on a small airplane).

So? Secure it by doing tunneled access. Eazy. Do that, and you can then cover the world with current technology and get better-than-projected-cellular speeds ( 3 times dialup doesn't come close to 60% of 10-base-T Ethernet). And some folks are doing that.

New Zealand's got a 3 square kilometer test network with smooth handoffs, running at 330 Kbps (aka DSL/Cable speed). Meanwhile, Mesh Networks is working on making all WiFi devices relay to dedicated access points, dynamically expanding the network.

So what does this have to do with the Canmephian universe? Well, simply put, there's WiFi all over the place, and BlueTooth at dedicated access points, InfoSticks and the inflation micropumps. GlobalComms are both WiFi and BlueTooth, relaying InfoStick communication. Access is tunneled to maintain security (aka everyone has a SSH keyset).

We are becoming Canmephian. :)
