FrontPage... UGH!
May. 21st, 2002 02:15 pmMicrosoft Frontpage. KeenSpace doesn't recommend it. Here's my reasons:
First, it likes to damage pages, bloat up their file sizes, and really mess with everything. Um... I like *thin* pages. Those that load fast?
Second, it likes to use it's own way of uploading pages. The code does run in Linux, but likes to hook into Apache and crashes often. Not only that, it's insecure as all hell get out. If I have a choice, I'm not installing it. Let people FTP instead. (Infact, I do. Thus, the FTP server, and the Web-FTP interface if folks can't)
Third, it's native Javascript is IE specific (not generic). That breaks Netscape 4, Mozilla, Opera... umm, 99% of the browsers that do Javascript?
Fourth, it's made by Microsoft. If you're not paranoid over Microsoft... lets just say you better look at those licences again, you may be signing away your soul. I'll let you look through Slashdot over the EULA refund.
So? What's the deal? What should you use?
I like Dreamweaver. Expensive, yes. But well worth it, IMHO. My pages are in Dreamweaver 3, which works wonderfully, can clean up any HTML file, shows mistakes automagically... It's a dream. 'nuff said.
