Anthrocon 2007 report
BEEP "Hi, Redwolf here. I'm at BWI Airport trying to check into my flight, but United's sending me over to another airline. Come on, it's what Expedia booked though... and changed the flight plans two times. Are airplanes just dropping out of the air? I'll check into it."
BEEP "RedWolf again. Turns out both Expedia and United forgot to rebook my flights. The poor lonely US Airways agent, bless her heart, she was able to get a hold of the situation. Thankfully I had the travel agency's iternary on me. She grabbed the system by the neck and made it cough out the initial Baltimore to Pittsburgh via Charlotte flight, then booked a Pittsburgh to Baltimore via Philadelphia flight. Better than going through New York Laguardia. Don't get me started on that airp..." BEE-BEEP!
BEEP "RedWolf here. I'm in Charlotte now. The flight was uneventful, but I was able to bump into a few furs on the same flight. Everything's running smoothly and I have plenty of time to munch on some bread sticks and call up the boss over at Comic Genesis to get the DNS switched over there. I asked a few days ago via email but nothing's happened yet. Where could he be? I'm going to introduce him to Jaiku one of these days. Leo Laporte uses it, why not him?"
BEEP "RedWolf again. I've made it to Pittsburgh, and I'm looking for my roommate, the elegant Multifurry writer Dr. Mercurious Prospero. Since I had the extra bed and didn't want to waste it, I asked him if he wanted to go. He said 'SURE!' and we hooked up. Oh! Here's the shuttle train to the land-side terminal. Hey, why did my cell's last bar go poo..." BEE-BEEP!
BEEP "$35 to get to the convention center hotel? Heh, better than when I take a taxi home from BWI. That usually costs $17, and in an old beat-up wreck with a Taxi sign glued on it with spit. Who said Pittsburgh was the pits? Oh why did I book at a hotel four blocks down? Why... oh yeah, I need
the exercise. An oversized chest doesn't go well with a gut. I wonder if they have a gym..."
BEEP "Yes, they're real. No, they're not implants. Yes, I'm that tall. Yes, I'm going to Anthrocon. Yes, you can touch them. Yes, I'm purring. No, what MTV said isn't all there is. Yes, Vanity Fair is fiction. No, CSI is fiction. Yes, that will be great! Why thank you! You should be able to go to the convention for free, from what I hear, since you're Omni hotel staff."
BEEP "RedWolf here in my hotel room in the Omni, dropping half my luggage from my PDB and massaging my paws a bit. It's so good to be out of those shoes that they mandate for getting on a plane... What, doc? PDB? Pocket Dimensional Backpack. Dryger invention. You haven't been keeping up with my webcomic, haven't you? What? City of Heros? Oh boy. At least I was able to get a better discount on the room."
BEEP "RedWolf again, this time at the convention center's hotel. We've upgraded to super-sponsor so we could get at the con suite as well as get first access to the 2007 t-shirts. This year's theme is 'To the future' and one of the guests of honor is Carolyn Kelly, Walt Kelly's daughter. If you don't know who Walt Kelly is, you probably haven't heard of the 1960's comic strip Pogo, and you're most definitely not that deep into the fandom. I wonder if they have one my size..."
BEEP "Tigerden Internet is set up, this time with full Firefox on some old, but more modern, graphical terminals. Unforunately, the Westin doesn't have a public access point for Anthrocon, and I'm unable to get dedicated access except at my hotel room. I have an art show and an artists mixer to go to, plus a few panels. I'm holding one of them, the Webcomics panel, with Bill Holbrook, who authors Kevin and Kell as well as John 'The Gneech' Robey who authors The Suburban Jungle and Never Never. Bill asked if John of The Accidental Centaurs could join, and I said yes. Should be fun.”
BEEP "I missed the RadioFurs panel, and I'm purposely missing the Second Life panel. There's no sense to go back and forth, as I'll probably miss everything. Time to spend on art!"
BEEP "Oh man, I walked around so much my paws are tired. I'm glad I upgraded to super-sponsor with Doc. I was able to sit down at the con suite in a bit of comfort and OOOOoooo! Wings!"
BEEP "Back at the Omni. Showed Doc Second Life from my perspective, showing Sandra (Drake Winger) being dual-headed and myself being massive. What fun! I did warn him of the limitations, though, and that he would need a better setup for running Second Life."
BEEP “The webcomics panel went great! I just needed to steer the conversation in the right direction and suprisingly enough The Accidental Centaurs is hosted on a shared account at Dreamhost. That fit perfectly with my presentation which I didn't need to show. Thanks to Bill, the Gneech, and John. Now to see if the mug I bid on got any more bids and if any of my artwork is selling.”
BEEP “Oh my... Pegasus 3:16 is just amazing me with his conbadge pic of me. I also have a few sketches in a few books in the works and I've plunked down another commission on a costume for a rather human friend. I also met Pinkuh at her table and picked up two prints of her exotic snake/spider hybrid as well as met Miss Mab of Dan and Mab's Furry Adventures. She's interested in a morph I play on FurryMuck, but couldn't do many heavy sales until after she got back to Canada. Legal issues, alas, with border crossing. I'll get a quote from her soon.”
BEEP “Note to self: When hosting Uncle Kage, don't skimp on the wine in both quality and quantity. But is it the story really true? A quite enjoyable story hour, and I shall have to get the DVDs.”
BEEP “Back in the hotel room, on SL again to give Dr. Mercurious a look at myself and Drake Winger there. I'm sorry about popping in, hon, but I'm glad you were two headed at the time.”
BEEP "I'm checking on everything now. Picked up the slightly-flawed badge but Pegasus 3:16 promises to send me a full scan. I will need to buy a heat-sealing laminator for doing these badges, since apparently they're cheap. I also got Sandra done by Henbe of Adventures of Fifine fame and picked up some more items. I hear that I'm not selling any artwork..."
BEEP “The convention is over, and the Dead Dog party has begun... but I'm feeling rather dead now. Dr. Mercurious had to leave early for his flight back home, but I'll be leaving tomorrow. Dead Drygerskunk walking. It was a good con. I didn't sell any artwork but I did win the mug... and nearly lost it in the Zoo.”
BEEP “OH MY $DEITY! THEY BOOKED ME ON A TWIN-PROP DASH 8~300! I THOUGHT THOSE WERE FOR PERSONAL USE NOW! HELLO?!? CAN YOU HEAR ME OVER THE ENGINE NOIZE?!? AT LEAST MY EAR DRUMS AREN'T GETTING STRETCHED OUT SO I CAN'T HEAR! I HOPE I DON'T TURN DEAF BEFORE THE SECOND LIFE LINUX VOICE CLIENT IS RELEASED!”
click I'm back home now. Unfortunately I have work tomorrow. I need a vacation from the vacation... but I'll be back.
