Intel to use new materials for cooler chips.
I stumbled on this when GMail popped in RSS feeds into their client, and I configured it a bit to put in Wired News' feed. Wired News reported, and pointed to a press release by Intel.
In essence, they've found a new substance (not an element, a substance) called indium animonide (chemical formula InSb, a combination of two metals that are neighbors to tin, and have more electrons than silicon). A transistor using this material is reportedly faster and uses less power than anything already announced -- and if my rusty chemistry is any indication, it's due to having two more levels of electrons wizzing around each other than what silicon has.
Hopefully they'll use that for their planned "light-power" processors.
