Thinking about Gentoo

I am now thinking about switching to Gentoo since Slack isn't going to be updated any time soon.  This means doing a partial phoenix of the HD.

Anyone know if Kernel 2.6.9 is worthwhile?  I'm not very sure about it and am sticking with 2.6.8.1.  Given a recent SMBFS vunerability, I hope 2.6.10 is better.

I've been using Gentoo for a couple of years now, STriker. It's fairly stable and reliable. I recently DL'd 2.6.9 and compiled it in order to deal with a wireless NIC problem. It didn't fix my problem, but it does seem to run pretty smoothly. I use Gnome for a desktop, and there were definite speed improvements with X11 and Gnome 2.6. Falconseye choked on me though... ;*)>
