Tis time to geek.
On a whim, I went to the Best Buy over in Baltimore to pick up some flash RAM -- PNY SD 1 Gig cards were $15. I also had to replace a monitor that was doing the cha-cha-cha with the displayed image, and looked at LCD's.
They had an opened box Gateway FPD1760 for $200 with a $60 gift card thrown in. Just add DVI cable and a power cable that an old HP Omnibook came with, and it powers up nice. Add the DVI cable I had to buy, the SD card, a Compact Flash card that was similarly cheap (1 gig, though), and the total comes out to $301.
Of course, Best Buy had to screw it up initially by screwing up my BB Credit card. They fixed it, and I was able to charge it. Easily payable in the next week.
It took me a few hours to get the LCD working nicely, but it turns out I just needed to tell Xorg and the NVidia card to use the EDID info from the monitors, but on the main CRT, ignore the pixel clock. Full rez both ways. :)
